i'm so in love with this dirty city
life at depaul
DePaul University is currently the place that i call home. i am in my second year here, and i love it! chicago was always my favorite city - and living within ten minutes of downtown, a twenty minute walk to Lake Michigan, five minute el ride to Chinese bakeries and poster stores and old record stores and art stores and every thing else that you find here - is wonderful.depaul represents the vincentian mission - and is very diverse. that's my favorite fact to tell when i'm talking to prospective students or anyone who asks me why i chose depaul. i've met so many people of different races, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities, economic backgrounds, etc. here that i don't think would have been possible at many other universities.
i also must say that i love my bedroom right now. that might sound a little crazy - but it's a single bedroom and i have it decorated just to my liking, with a giant world map on one wall, and all kinds of prints of paintings on the other walls. it also has a large number of stuffed frogs. my room is my retreat from the world when it's too cold to go outside...

as far as classes go - i've had such a wide range of courses from women's studies to biology to religion to multicultural philosophy! i love the quarter system because it makes it possible to cram as much learning into one year as possible - 12 classes as opposed to 8 or 10. just for kicks, here is a page with links to a few essays and papers i've written while in college. some are horrible but some aren't all that bad...
i've also made, slowly but surely, a few great friends here. most of them i met through pride depaul or ambassadors:
gen (and nik of course) lived in my building last year and thought that i was scared of her, but really i was just shy...and we had so many great late-night chats in the stairs of corcoran!
my roommates carrisa and adena are fabulous also - adena and i connected way back in january last year when we hung out in the student center until closing time after a Second City showing...and carrisa, being a taurus, is just the right combination of stubbornness and dedication with a little bit of goofiness for me. stefanie, my other roommate, has her own story...
